Hymns To God™

HymnsToGod™ began in 2008 as a personal project to locate older public-domain hymns and make them easy for others to use in worship. My original goal has been to transcribe hymns that are not often found in modern hymnbooks used by churches of Christ. Since then I have concentrated on those that continue to be popular.

All hymns on this site are believed to be in the public domain, licensed under Creative Commons type 3 or type 4, or covered by a conditional copyright that allows free use. This makes them available for anyone to reproduce and use in worship.

Sound Files

I first considered leaving out the sound files. Over time, I realized many people, including myself, cannot read music or pitch a song without some assistance.

The New Testament teaches us to worship God by singing, without instrumental accompaniment. Please understand that these sound files are not intended to show approval of instrumental music in worship. God tells us to sing and make melody in our hearts only (Eph. 5:19). I often remind others that we should worship God with the only musical instrument created by God, and that us our voices.

Hymn Format

Most hymns on this site are formatted for 6×9 paper, the size commonly found in many songbooks. They can also be printed on standard letter-size paper. Some hymns are already available in letter-size format, and more will be added over time.

Many hymns are also available as overhead projection files in PDF, PPT(X), and KEY formats.

Mup Music Publisher

All hymns were created using the Mup Music Publisher by Arkkra. Mup uses a simple text-based format to produce music notation. It delivers high-quality results, is easy to learn, and includes a helpful manual within the editor.
